Schools Resumption: FG Says After Consultation, 18th January Stands

He said the schools must ensure compulsory wearing of Facemasks by all students, teachers and workers in all schools and Temperature checks and hand washing facilities must be at strategic locations in all schools.

The Minister of Education, Malam adamu Adamu has said schools resumption date of 18th January 2021 stands.

He said the decision was reached after due consultations with relevant stakeholders and having taken comprehensive appraisal of the situation to review the proposed date.

This was contained in a statement from the federal ministry of education, signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations Ben Bem Goong.

The statement reads: “After extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, including State Governors, Commissioners of Education, Proprietors and heads of institutions, staff unions and students, the consensus of opinion is that the resumption date of 18″ January should remain, while parents and respective institutions must ensure full compliance with COVID-19 protocols.”

FG had hinted during the COVID-19 Presidential Task Force press briefing that there may be a review of the proposed resumption date of 18 January 2021.

Protocols to observe

He said the schools must ensure compulsory wearing of Facemasks by all students, teachers and workers in all schools and Temperature checks and hand washing facilities must be at strategic locations in all schools.

“Ensure constant supply of water and sanitizers, enforcement of maintenance of social distancing and suspension of large gatherings such as assembly and visiting days as well as avoiding overcrowding, including limitations in class sizes and hostel occupancy,” the statement said.

Other protocols include availability of functional health clinics with facilities for isolation and transportation of suspected cases to medical facilities.

He said adherence to all other non-pharmaceutical protocols, restrictions and containment measures as may be prescribed/ approved by the PTF from time to time must be applied.

“These measures which are to ensure safe reopening of schools for academic activities will be subject to constant review as we urge teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance.”
