21 Die In Niger, Oyo Road Crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Relations Officer in Niger State, Raji Egigogo, blamed the crash on fatigue, over speeding and overloading.

At least 21 persons have lost their lives in road crashes in Niger and Oyo states Tuesday.

In Niger State, 13 people were killed and 14 others injured in a road crash that occurred along Kutugi-Bida road on Tuesday morning.

It was gathered that the accident happened when a commercial Bus with registration number ZUR 690XA heading to Lagos had a head-on collision with a DAF Trailer with registration number FUN272XA returning from Lagos after Panti Village along Kutigi-Bida road.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Relations Officer in Niger State, Raji Egigogo, blamed the crash on fatigue, over speeding and overloading.

He said that the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Center, Bida and the General Hospital, Kutigi while the remains of the dead have been deposited at the general hospital’s morgue.

In Oyo State, eight persons lost their lives in an auto crash that occurred along Celica bus stop axis of Ife-Ibadan expressway in Ibadan.

It was gathered that the accident occurred when a truck, after developing a break failure, rammed into a 16-seater bus coming from Osun State.

Witnesses said eight people, including the driver of the bus, died instantly while several others sustained injuries.

When contacted, the Oyo State FRSC Sector Commander, Mrs Uche Chukwurah, confirmed the accident, but said only three people died in the crash.

Also, the public relations officer of the state police command, Gbemiga Fadeyi, insisted that it was three people who died in the accident.
