Chelsea striker Timo Werner goal against Southampton was been shortlisted for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for the month of October.

Theunionnigeria.com learnt from the club website that Werner superb goal is in contention with other for the month of October.

The 24-year-old opened his Premier League account in style when he let a Ben Chilwell pass from the flank run through his legs.

Timo Werner scored from the spot for Chelsea in their 3-0 win against Rennes on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League.

When the Southampton defender realised what Werner had done, it was too late.

Werner used his rapid pace to race into the Saints’ box where he showed great patience to get a shot away with four defenders tumbling in front of him.

The goal came as no shock to those who watch him closely, with Frank Lampard commenting:

“That’s what he’s all about.

” I know he can do that, in both of the goals he had a lot of work to do and his speed and guile and the quality of the finishes it was great and we will see a lot more from him.

Werner will be against Yves Bissouma (Brighton), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Manuel Lanzini (West Ham), Ross Barkley (Aston Villa, on loan from Chelsea), Patrick Bamford (Leeds United), Michail Antonio (West Ham) and Tom Cairney (Fulham) for October’s award.

This is the second month in a row where a Chelsea player has been shortlisted for the Goal of the Month, with Reece James’s strike against Brighton nominated in September.

Voting has commenced and will close 6pm on Monday 9 November with supporters to  vote for player of their choice.

In another development, Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva has also been nominated for the player of the Month for October.

The Brazilian has been a calming, commanding influence at the back for the Blues, developing a defensive partnership with Kurt Zouma that has seen the pair keep out every opponent they have faced so far in all competitions.

After making his Premier League debut in late September, the 36-year-old has settled in quickly, featuring throughout in three of our four league outings in October.

He was particularly impressive away at Old Trafford as we kept Manchester United at bay in a 0-0 draw, before putting in an unruffled performance against Burnley a week later in a 3-0 victory.

The defender’s experience helped Frank Lampard’s side collect eight points from 12 last month, though he was absent for our 3-3 home draw with Southampton.

Che Adams (Southampton), Conor Coady (Wolves), Pablo Fornals (West Ham), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Kyle Walker (Man City) and Son Heung-min are the other nominees for the individual prize, with the winner announced next Friday 13 November.
