Zamalek’s  director of football Amir Mortada Mansour had announced his abdication from the club following the suspension of the club board members.

The Egyptian FA on Sunday announced the suspension of the Zamalek board members following issues of corruption.

They were told to step down until the Public Prosecution panel completes its investigation.

The club were alleged to have mismanaged it’s finances and owe the Egyptian FA up to EGP 30 million.

Mansour who have played a major part in the club success in a statement said he will now become a fan of the club.

“This morning I was dismissed from my position for the foreseeable future, therefore I will now leave Zamalek after 28 months and will return to my position as a fan of the club.

“As a kid, my dream was to wear the Zamalek jersey and get the honor of representing the club and win trophies as a player but it never happened.

“But I was honored to oversee the Zamalek team and succeed in winning 5 tournaments that made the fans happy.

“Unfortunately I was unable to continue what I’ve started and what I hope to do in order to further improve but the fact that I was head of the football department remains a huge honor,” he added.

Mansour thanked the club former president who is also his father and the team supporters for the confidence reposed on him.

“I wish all the luck to those who will lead the club and to those who will succeed me in managing the footballing sector, I hope that they preserve the team’s stability.

“And I hope that one day the tampering with this great club will stop.

“Starting today I will support the club and the team as a fan and I will come back stronger one day,” he concluded.

Mansour played a vital role in recruiting players such as Achraf Bencharki, Ferjani Sassi from Al-Nasr and Ahmed Sayed Zizo who are now backbone of the club.
